Restored Home in Ireland

This restored early 1700s thatched stone cottage is located in County Louth, Ireland, where Australian Sonja Bergin and her Irish husband Kevin decided to settle down. Their restoration earned their home Best Period Renovation in the Readers’ Awards 2011.

The article on the renovation process is quite interesting. Most of it was done by the owners but for the roof they needed a master thatcher. Kevin says that he found nearly two tons of junk in the old thatch!

You can read the interview with the owners on the renovation process here.

  1. How lovely to see this. My aunt's cottage in County Limerick had a layout just like this & it's wonderful to see just what can be done with what is a series of very small spaces. The bedrooms are fantastic because the spaces really are tiny.
